Since VEISHEA’s beginning in 1922, the VEISHEA Parade has been a cornerstone and highlight in the yearly celebration of Iowa State University. For many members of the Iowa State University and Ames communities, it is a long-standing tradition to attend the parade as it travels through the heart of the Iowa State campus. Each year the parade attracts thousands of people, from its emergence upon Pammel Drive to its culmination just past the Memorial Union.
Thousands more viewers get to experience the parade through a television broadcast. From balloons to floats and bands to dignitaries, the parade offers a viewing experience unlike any other that appeals to people of all ages.
Although the VEISHEA Parade may seem like all smiles and magic, there is a lot more that goes on behind the scenes to make this wonderful event happen. The entries spend thousands of hours planning and constructing each float. Preparations for parade day occur well in advance of crowd arrival on campus. Staging takes place nearly 10 hours prior to the scheduled start time of 10:30 a.m.
The VEISHEA Parade would not be able to showcase the diversity and culture of the Iowa State community without the assistance and involvement of the community and campus organizations willing to showcase their club’s part in molding the Iowa State community. Keep your eyes open as you discover new entries and we come together to celebrate the continued legacy of Iowa State University’s 87th VEISHEA Parade! With more than 100 unique entries, the VEISHEA Parade promises to entertain every parade-lover!
